Tree People is a duo playing soulful, funky, and folky heart-songs with empowering sing-alongs and groovy anthems that get the people dancing and singing. Comprised of multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriters Xue Lionstone and Grace Love, this dynamic duo delivers moving performances of original songs that explore themes of healing, unconditional love, and belonging. Side effects include restoration of hope, joy, connection, and belief in the power of love.

Grace Love and Xue Lionstone had been performing for many years individually before they joined forces two summers ago. Since then they have shared their duo project in a large variety of venues spanning across NC, FL, TX, NM, CO, HI and the USVI, and at 3 festivals to date (Cosmic Connections in Asheville, NC, and Tribal Convergence and Tribal Vision in Durango, CO).
Additionally, they have performed and/or collaborated with Hope Medford and Max Ribner of Medicine for the People, Chances R Good, Sierra Marin, Freedom Family Band, Fungi Flows, Coop Mandala, Andy Babb & Lara Elle, Thom Lafond, Maite la Muse, and Dobarae among others. We have also opened for Mike Love, David Satori and DJ Khalid.
Tree People took root in the summer of 2023 when singer-songwriter musicians Xue Lionstone and Grace Love came together for their first jam at Pyro Music Festival in Ohio. Two traveling musicians dedicated to their art, Xue brought his rhythmic funk-soul groove while Grace brought her island vibe indie-folk. Their combined love of the keys and bass, Xue’s drumming, Grace’s strumming, and their heartfelt vocals complemented each other perfectly.
For both of them, the songwriting process is first and foremost a self-healing method, where the lyrics of the songs are authentic reflections of the inner journey and affirmations of lessons learned along the way. Then, it is a great blessing and honor to share these songs as medicine and loving reminders for everyone. And when we sing and dance together, our chorus becomes a living canopy in the great forest of humanity.
Just like trees bridge the sky and the earth, humans bridge the worlds of spirit and matter. As Xue’s anthem “Who Am I” reminds us, we are “divine creatures” walking on this Earth. Tree People’s message is one of acceptance for all that is within us, as we walk in both worlds and learn to love it all. For when we learn to love it all in ourselves, we learn to love all in each other.
